Taylor Fritz vs Joao Sousa: Preview

Things haven’t been the best this Clay season for American Taylor Fritz after an excellent hard court season. Although he made a terrific start on Clay, reaching the semi finals at Sardegna but since then, he has won just one match in three tournaments.

He lost in the first round at Monte Carlo to Roberto Bautista Agut and to Albert Ramos Vinolas in Madrid. He then defeated Dan Evans at Rome before losing to top seed Novak Djokovic.

As for his opponent, Portuguese veteran Joao Sousa has not been in the best of form lately. He is struggling a lot with serve and has not won any main draw match this Clay season. His best result came at Serbia Open and Lyon Open where he was able to make it to the main draw through Qualifiers. He also took higher ranked German Jan Lennard Struff to three sets in Sardegna but couldn’t come out as the winner.

Taylor Fritz vs Joao Sousa: Head-to-Head

This will be the first meeting between the duo. They haven’t met on tour yet and hence their H2H stands deadlock at 0-0.

Taylor Fritz vs Joao Sousa: Prediction

The match is a bit tilted in the American’s favor courtesy Sousa’s abysmal form. Although Fritz hasn’t been in form lately too and will be conscious about that too. He will look to minimize his error count and set up a good foundation for the rest of the tournament.

Sousa will look to indulge in long rallies if he wants to trouble his opponent. The serve will be a key for both players and expect Fritz to hold it most of the times.

Prediction: Fritz to win in four sets.
