National Hockey League game to be played at Idaho Central Arena

The National Hockey League is coming to Boise.

The Idaho Steelheads announced a preseason game featuring the Vegas Golden Knights vs the Arizona Coyotes will be played at Idaho Central Arena Oct. 8 at 6 p.m.

Tickets will be available to the public on Aug. 10. Season ticket holders, however, will get first dibs to tickets, team officials said.

Prices range from $45-$100 depending on which seat you pick.

“We are excited to be able to bring NHL hockey back to the Treasure Valley for the first time in 25 years,” said Eric Trapp, president of Idaho Sports Properties.

Boise has not hosted an NHL preseason game since Sept. 24 1997, when the San Jose Sharks played the LA Kings. For reference, the Steelheads had not yet even begun their inaugural season.

Over the 25 years, the Steelheads have won two Kelly Cups (the ECHL Championships), greatly increasing hockey's popularity in the city. Throughout their existence, the Idaho Steelheads have had one of the highest-winning percentages in the ECHL, coupled with a passionate fanbase.
