BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — A weather system is headed this way from over the Pacific Ocean. Rain is expected to hit the Treasure Valley this evening, continuing through much of Thursday.
The mountains are expected to receive significant snowfall from this storm blowing in. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 5:00 pm Wednesday night until 5:00 am Friday morning. The West Central and Boise Mountain zones are expected to receive between six and ten inches of snow accumulation through Thursday night, and between 12 and 24 inches for mountain peaks above 6,000 feet elevation.
Strong winds are expected with this storm, gusts up to 30 miles per hour are possible. Driving conditions will be difficult, please plan accordingly and avoid traveling through the mountains if possible. Highway 55 is expected to see significant travel impacts Wednesday night through Thursday at least.
The Treasure Valley will clear up Friday. Partly cloudy skies are expected to return Friday and Saturday before another storm rolls in Sunday which will bring more mountain snow and valley rain.
