You ate twice a day Joe Rogan dives into Cuban athlete training program creating machine

The UFC has hosted some of the best MMA standouts in the history of the most popular fighting sport of the 21st century. Long-time fight enthusiast Joe Rogan has seen it all. The color commentator and veteran podcaster can’t seem to stop talking about ‘genetic beast’ Yoel Romero. This time, though, he shifts the focus of the topic to the juice behind the man – his Cuban wrestling.

Joe Rogan and Jorge Masvidal once discussed how Romero never lifted weights. They marveled at the notion that ‘Soldier of God’ looked more buff at 185/205-pound limits than most heavyweights. During the JRE MMA Show #119, Rogan and Michael Bisping also touched upon the alleged Cuban LAB project and soviet programs to create such superhuman. He does so once again.

But the 'Yoel Romero' thing was different, like Yoel was explaining how he grew up in Cuba and about he went through their wrestling program… if you were the elite, you ate three times a day. But if you’re below that, you eat twice a day...And you are working out with all these animals. Like their only way to make their life better is through athletic achievement...

Now, the 57-year-old reiterated how Romero was literally scrapping for food despite his build. 2000 Olympic Silver medalist Romero is a three-time World Cup winner (six-time medalist) and the 2003 Pan American Games Gold medalist. The 46-year-old also represented Cuba at senior level in the FILA Wrestling World Championships before the Olympic years.

The ‘superhuman’ of MMA has left behind such a legacy that even now, other giants of combat sports see prime comparisons with him. According to Rogan, the journey was anything but an easy regimen. For much of his career, he has gone PED-free and has proven it so. This is why his unnatural strength is even more astonishing.

Joe Rogan can’t just stop his fascination for the inexplicable Yoel Romero. The podcaster even name-dropped Mike Tyson to prove how good he is. The whole MMA clique knows how much Rogan is a fan of the consensus HW boxing icon. Despite his old age, Rogan maintains that he is still that ferocious Tyson. Yet, he feels the American Top Team (ATT) standout out of Cuba is better.

Rogan claims that the story of Yoel Romero is very different from that of most of the combat sports athletes in history. The Cuban got to where he is from, a place of struggle. Yet, he has been a force to reckon with. More to it, the fighting aficionado cannot explain how Romero is so strong or heals up so quickly.

The UFC took him to a doctor… he’s got a different structure. They said that the tendons in his eyes are three times larger than a normal person’s... they said he’s already healing. He had a fractured orbital bone.

This prompted co-host Brendan Schaub to make the link that the Cuban fighter was like the popular Marvel comic book character – Wolverine! Joe Rogan also agreed. Played by popular Aussie actor Hugh Jackman on screen, the namesake character is a ripped, feral-like mutant with superhuman healing abilities.

For a guy whose tendons in the eye are several times thicker than normal, superhuman Romero is not far behind. Pop culture references aside, the fighter might not be a mutant, but his strength and fight durability have been a topic for ages.
